Application / Solar

EVA choices for solar encapsulant film.

A good film trial starts with more than a resin number. Use these grades to build a shortlist, then check the formulation, extrusion window, cure response and laminate result.

01 / In the film

The resin is one part of the encapsulant system.

It has to run cleanly through the film line and work with the cure package, stabilizers and other ingredients. Optical and mechanical performance comes from the finished formulation and laminate—not the resin on its own.

  • Stable film extrusion
  • Formulation compatibility
  • Optical targets
  • Lamination window
02 / On the shortlist

VA and flow narrow the field. They do not pick the winner.

The solar-linked group includes 28% VA grades across lower and medium flow ranges. Before choosing one for a trial, also check additives, gels, volatiles, cure response and the conditions used on the film line.

  • VA and MFR/MI
  • Pellet and gel quality
  • Cure response
  • Ageing plan
03 / On the line

Run the formulation on the equipment that matters.

Compare candidates in the intended recipe and on representative equipment. Agree on test methods before results are compared, especially when more than one film line, plant or supplier is involved.

  • Recipe-specific trial
  • Film-line run
  • Laminate testing
  • Change control

Before you shortlist

Questions worth settling early.

Is EVA still used in solar modules?

Yes. It remains a widely used encapsulant material. The right grade still depends on the film recipe, module design and reliability target.

Which resin number matters most?

No single number makes the decision. VA content and melt flow are useful filters, but the film maker still needs to check gels, additives, cure behavior and long-term test results.

Can the TDS predict module reliability?

No. Reliability has to be demonstrated with the finished film, lamination process and module construction under the relevant test plan.
