Application / Adhesives

EVA choices for hot-melt formulation.

Start with the viscosity window and the way the adhesive will be applied. The portfolio runs from medium-flow options to MI 400 reference grades.

01 / In the recipe

Formulate the system, not the resin in isolation.

EVA brings polarity, flexibility and melt behavior to the recipe, but it has to work with the selected tackifier, wax, oil and stabilizer package. A promising resin can still be the wrong choice for the finished adhesive.

  • Tackifier compatibility
  • Wax and oil balance
  • Open and set time
  • Bond target
02 / In the melter

Match flow to the way the adhesive is applied.

Higher melt flow often helps lower viscosity. VA content changes polarity and softness. Sailboat adhesive-linked grades cover MI 15 to 400 g/10 min, giving formulators several sensible places to begin.

  • Application method
  • Processing temperature
  • Viscosity window
  • Thermal stability
03 / At the bond

The real substrates get the final word.

Test the complete adhesive on the materials it must join and with representative production equipment. Check bond strength, heat resistance, creep, colour, odour and storage stability before locking the formula.

Before you shortlist

Questions worth settling early.

Why look at melt flow first?

It is a quick way to compare how different EVA grades may influence melt viscosity and processing. It does not replace a viscosity measurement of the finished adhesive.

Does more VA always improve adhesion?

No. It can increase polarity and softness, but the substrate, surface condition and rest of the recipe matter just as much.

Where are the high-flow options?

The list includes reference profiles at MI 150 and 400 g/10 min. Check the current TDS and availability before building a trial plan.
